Sidewalk astronomy in Madison - student views the Orion Nebula.png
A student looks at the Orion Nebula through an Apertura CarbonStar 8" Ritchey–Chrétien telescope, mounted on a Sky-Watcher Wave 150i strain wave mount and carbon fiber tripod with pier extension, set up at Library Mall at UW-Madison for sidewalk astronomy. Visible inside the telescope are the secondary mirror and vanes, as well as baffles that reduce the effect of glare from nearby stars. The student is shielding her eyes to avoid glare from nearby lights and the photographic flash. In the background are other astronomers, a collapsible table with some ancillary equipment, and carry bags for a different telescope.
